(Court mounted for wear) Edward Leonard Price was born in Great Ness, Shrewsbury, Shropshire.on the 8th April 1895 and enlisted into the Territorial Forces on the 10th May 1913, into the Shropshire Horse Artillery. At the time of enlisting he listed his parents as next of kin, living at 21 Meadow Place, Smithfield Road, Shrewsbury His MIC shows him serving in the Royal Artillery with service no. 604121, 353, then in the Royal Engineers, service not 299120 and WR/306107 On the T.F.W.m. roll he is shown as Royal Horse Artillery. He was Gassed on the 28th March 1917 He was admitted to Hospital on the 4th April 1917 suffering with wounds to his back from an accidental bomb explosion in the trenches. He was sent to England on the 6th April. He was transferred to the Royal Engineers on the 13th June 1917 Great Western Railways documents shown him as working as an Engineer Cleaner from 1912, in Shrewsbury, being dismissed on the 17th October 1913. He re-joined on the 17th November 1919 as an Engineer Cleaner, but became a Fireman on the 26th February 1920. On the 20th April 1942 he was employed as a Driver, and continues until 1951. His railway records record he received the St John Ambulance Medallion on the 29th July 1925, and served with the home guard from 1st June 1940. He was chosen for First Aid Duties in Westminster Abbey during the Coronation. His St John’s Serving Brother medal was announced in the London Gazette 5th January 1951 His wife died on the 10th August 1976 living at Coton Hill, Shrewsbury Condition – VF
