A. F. Farwell. R.H.A.; British War and Victory Medals, 97896 Cpl. F. Farwell. R.A.; Delhi Durbar 1911, silver, No. 97896. Gr. F. Farwell. “Y” R.H.A. engraved naming. (mounted court-style for wear) Frank Farwell was born in Bridport, Dorset, in 1875 and attested for the Royal Field Artillery at Dorchester on 23 June 1893. He served with ‘F’ Battery in India from 17 September 1895 to 23 April 1906, and again from 9 March 1907 to 16 November 1914, and was present at the Delhi Durbar in 1911. Whilst stationed at Mohw, India, he suffered a contusion to the right leg on 13 March 1910; a contusion to the hand on 26 January 1912 and suffered from Malaria on 1 October 1913. Farwell saw further service during the Great War with ‘Y’ Battery as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force from 15 March 1915 to 16 March 1916, serving in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 27 April 1915, and then on the Western Front from 17 March 1916 until the cessation of hostilities, being promoted Corporal on 23 March 1916. He was discharged on 26 February 1919, after 25 years and 249 days’ service, of which over 18 years was spent soldiering in India. With the recipient’s original Certificate of Discharge; Certificate of Employment during the War; two Certificates of Instruction; the recipient’s Field Service Pocket Book 1914; riband bar; and copied research. Condition – minor edge bruise to first, good very fine
