Description Naval L.S.G.C. – Commissioned Boatman, H.M. Coast Guard (Entitled to a Sea Gallantry medal) Naval Long Service and Good Conduct (Vic) with decorative buckle, John Kirkpatrick . Comd Boatn H.M. Coast Guard. John Kirkpatrick was born in Antrim on the 28th August 1854. He enlisted in the Navy on the 1st January 1873. He served on various ships including, Endymion, Duke of Wellington, Lord Warden, Hecules, Jumna, Excellent, Castor, Neptune, Repulse, Saltfleet, Audacious and Hull.being discharged on the 4th February 1899, joining the RFR on 4th May 1901 and finally discharged on the 31st December 1905. He is referred to in the Hartlepool Daily Mail on the 20th January 1894.: “REWARD FOR BRAVERY The board of trade have awarded their bronze medal for gallantry in saving life at sea to Joseph Gloyn, commissioned boatman of the coastguard, and to John Kirkpatrick and William Harper, Coastguard boatmen at Staithes, for their praiseworthy services at the wreck of the Brig Middleton of West Hartlepool, off Redcliff, on the 18th of November.” Condition – NEF
