Niven Section Leader , Special Constabulary, Bengal. (Engraved in running script.) On original wearing pin. James Carstairs Niven was from Errol, Perth and Kinross. Indian Police Medal – Civil Gazette, Lahore 1st January 1943 Order of the British Empire , O.B.E. (Civil) – London Gazette 1st January 1948: “James Carstairs Niven. Esq, Commandant Special Constabulary Force of Calcutta, Bengal.” Medals relating to the Special Constabulary system in India are not common. With copied newspaper articles The Courier Advertiser 5th december 1953 – Regarding his appointment as a Director of Jute Industries, Ltd. He had spent 30 years in the trade and been the UK’s assistant Jute controller in India and Pakistan 1949 to 1952. Dundee Courier 24th July 1952 – also regarding the above appointment. The Scotsman, 26th October 1963 – Notice of his death on 30th July and his estate. Condition – NEF
