Description This is an original German Labor Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront / DAF) aluminum belt buckle, manufactured by Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid. Properly RZM marked on the reverse M4/39 as well as Assmann ‘A’ logo marked indicating early construction. The buckle produced in aluminum features the DAF cogwheel emblem with central swastika, correctly struck in relief on a plain rectangular field. The emblem remains well defined, with clear detail to the cogwheel teeth and central device. The reverse has a crank catch making this a very early example, and much more uncommon! Amazing buckle often missing from most collections. Note – The DAF replaced independent labor unions in National Socialist Germany and oversaw civilian labor organizations during the Third Reich period. The lack of this organization not participating in combat, or POW camps is one of the main reasons we do not find their buckles as often as most.
